Week 2 began last night between the Green Bay Packers and Washington Commanders, and now we will wait for the Sunday schedule that features the Buffalo Bills taking on the New York Jets in New Jersey. The Bills are the only 1-0 team in the AFC East, but the Jets should have beaten the Steelers last week, if we are being honest.

This is going to be a tough matchup as the Jets match up well against the Bills, whether they win or lose. However, Buffalo’s defense, which is already near the bottom of the league after their pathetic performance in Week 1, will now be without their star defensive tackle in Ed Oliver.

According to Ian Rapoport, head coach Sean McDermott has ruled out Oliver for Week 2 after Oliver “got stepped on this week and is using a walking boot.”

Losing Ed Oliver massively hurts Bills for Week 2 vs. Jets

Let’s be honest, the Bills defense was atrocious last week against the Ravens. Had it not been for Ed Oliver being the best player on the unit and making the game-changing play of forcing Derrick Henry to fumble late in the 4th, the Bills would be 0-1.

Now, the defense is tasked to stop a Jets offense that put up 32 points on the Steelers. Justin Fields and Breece Hall looked solid last week and if Buffalo can’t contain them, this could become an upset victory for the Jets.

With Oliver’s absence, this is a chance for someone like T.J. Sanders or Deone Walker to step up and show their worth. DaQuan Jones is already going to be taking on the middle of the trenches so now someone will need to step up and create interior pressure. Not having Oliver for this game could very much hurt the Bills and be a difference maker in the outcome.
