When the Buffalo Bills opted to sign wide receiver Elijah Moore early on in the summer, there was a good amount of excitement because of the production he has done early on in his career. Not to mention, he has had to deal with bad quarterback play and yet he still found a way to make an impact.
Joining the Bills, who have the MVP in Josh Allen, you would think that Moore would become a fantastic contributor. The only issue that we fans are seeing is that Moore has not been impactful in the preseason.
Moore ended the preseason with four catches for 13 yards. Yeah, those numbers definitely aren’t impressive at all. However, it’s also important to remember that Josh Allen wasn’t the one under center throwing him the ball.
WR Elijah Moore's disappointing preseason was not his fault
Moore wasn’t brought to Buffalo to catch passes from the backups. He was brought to the Bills to open up the playbook and be another weapon for Allen. In four seasons, Moore has done more than expected considering who his quarterbacks were.
He knows how to create separation, seeing as how he has been targeted 100+ times the last two seasons and has had career highs in receptions the last two seasons.
With his versatility to line up inside or outside the numbers, the Bills should give him the chance to prove it in a meaningful game where it’s Allen throwing the ball. Even though the preseason is still fresh, it’s not going to matter what happened these last three games. All that’s going to matter is what Moore does in the regular season, and hopefully in the playoffs.
With the preseason officially coming to a conclusion, Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane will now decide who will come onto the final roster for the Bills. It will be very interesting, and quite shocking if they decide to not bring Moore on for the season.
