There is a lot of hype and excitement surrounding the Buffalo Bills going into training camp and then eventually the start of the season. The 2024 season shocked a lot of fans outside of Bills Mafia because the belief was that the Bills were going to take a step back after a dreadful offseason with losing a lot of players. Well, we all know how those predictions turned out…
General manager Brandon Beane would then follow up last season with building up the defense through free agency and the NFL Draft. There should be no excuses why the Bills aren’t celebrating in February as Super Bowl champs. Even though the Bills have a great roster from top to bottom, there is always going to be some busts just like on any other team in the league.
There was one specific player that the Bills signed that could become the biggest bust for the team in 2025 and it’s defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi, who the Bills signed from the Pittsburgh Steelers on a one-year deal worth up to $8.3 million with $8 million guaranteed.
Getting Ogunjobi was a great depth signing, except for the fact that Ogunjobi will be facing a six-game suspension due to violating the league’s PED policy. This was found out during free agency and Brandon Beane said he was shocked by this news. In addition to Ogunjobi being suspended, Michael Hoecht is also facing the same suspension. The biggest difference though is that he has a three-year deal and Beane reportedly knew that Hoecht was facing a suspension.
DT Larry Ogunjobi is set to be Bills' biggest bust in 2025
It’s the fact that the Bills will be without Ogunjobi for over the first month of the season and he’s getting $8 million guaranteed to be part of a rotation that features starters in Ed Oliver and DaQuan Jones, and newcomers in T.J. Sanders and Deone Walker. There is also DeWayne Carter who is entering his second season as a pro.
Unless Ogunjobi can come back and become arguably Buffalo’s best defensive lineman after his suspension, I don’t see this pairing working out at all. He will be returning to action for the first halfway through the season while everyone else has found their stride.
