Whether you watch the NBA or not, it’s hard to not to see or hear about the New York Knicks winning the NBA championship on Saturday night against the San Antonio Spurs. The Knicks ended their 53-year championship drought, with the last time winning it was back in 1973. They have shown that no matter how long it takes a team to win a championship, anything can be done.
The Buffalo Bills are looking to capture their first Super Bowl in history, and they haven’t won a championship since they were in the AFL. They have competed in four consecutive Super Bowls, but lost all of them. Since then, they have not reached the big game.
Going into a new season in a new era, the Bills are moving forward after a whirlwind of an offseason that was featured with Sean McDermott being let go, and Joe Brady stepping in as the head coach. Despite all of the changes that the Bills have gone through, Bryan DeArdo from CBS Sports believes they have the best chance at ending their championship drought, just like the Knicks did.
Bills set up to break championship drought in 2026 despite major changes
DeArdo ranked the NFL teams who have the best chance to end their championship droughts in 2026 and the Bills are at the top of the list.
"Buffalo is still searching for its first NFL title after winning back-to-back AFL championships before the league merged with the NFL ahead of the 1970 season. The Bills haven't been back to the Super Bowl since losing four straight from 1990-93." said DeArdo.
"The Bills' current Super Bowl window will remain open as long as Josh Allen plays MVP-caliber football. Buffalo is hoping that new coach and former offensive coordinator Joe Brady can get the Bills over the finish line. Allen is also going to need more from a defense that has often let him down in the postseason." DeArdo added.
Depending on who you talk to, there will be conversations on how much pressure the Bills face to reach and win the Super Bowl. It’s tough to have that kind of pressure with a new head coach running the show. Then again, all that the Bills did was promote Joe Brady to head coach, and he has been in the building since 2022. Not to mention, he gets to keep working closely with Josh Allen as his quarterback.
The season is less than three months away, and Bills fans are hoping that all of the changes are worth it. Bringing a Super Bowl to Western New York is the main goal no matter what the journey becomes.
