Even though the team of Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott will forever be known as the regime that brought Josh Allen to the Buffalo Bills, the 2025 offseason could go down as the best offseason the Bills had under this duo. After constantly getting eliminated in the playoffs in some sort of heartbreaking fashion, the Bills decided that enough was enough and followed up with a strong 2025 offseason going into this season.
Beane and his staff were busy this offseason as they didn’t just know what needed to be addressed, but they went out in free agency and the NFL draft and made big moves that could pay off big time for the short-term and long-term future. Whether it was signing players to a one-year deal, or trading up in the draft, we saw Beane do everything this offseason.
We all know that the biggest takeaway from the Bills’ offseason moves was that they focused on bulking up the defense. However, we have never seen the aggressiveness that we saw these last couple of months but it could be just what the Bills need to finally get over the hump that they fall down every single time in the playoffs.
Bills were a big winner in 2025 offseason
With the Bills having a fantastic offseason, they have earned a spot on CBS Sports Josh Edwards’ list of teams who had the best offseason at No. 7 overall. They finished ahead of the Browns, Eagles, and Colts. Here’s what Edwards had to say about the Bills’ offseason:
"Buffalo's offense was already in good shape, but Josh Palmer and Elijah Moore could be assets to that unit. The real changes were made on defense through a scattershot approach. Along the front seven, they added veterans Joey Bosa, Michael Hoecht and Larry Ogunjobi, as well as rookies T.J. Sanders, Landon Jackson and Deone Walker. They get dinged a bit because Ogunjobi and Hoecht will serve six-game suspensions to open the season, but the collection of those players should lead to improved results "Josh Edwards, CBS Sports
When the news about the suspensions that Michael Hoecht and Larry Ogunjobi were facing for violating the league’s PED policy, it took a bit of a hit to the momentum Beane had with the moves. However, they should only be missing six games and will debut in the middle of the season with high energy.
The defense is going to look different this season and for seasons to come. There is a lot of young talent both on the defensive line and in the secondary, and the Bills have their quarterback on the defense with linebacker Terrel Bernard. More than likely, the Bills will need to address the linebacker position next offseason but for now, they are more than good.
Buffalo’s championship window is open and Beane knew that. He could not afford to not be aggressive and build up the team around Josh Allen, who is coming off his MVP season. I know we say every season, but this Bills team just might be the one that delivers a Lombardi Trophy to Western New York for the first time in franchise history.
There’s a lot of depth and talent that the front office brought in. Shortly, it will be go-time and Buffalo’s run to the Super Bowl begins on Sunday Night Football against the Baltimore Ravens.
