Bills' AFC East rival listed as landing spot for struggling veteran QB

This would be an upgrade for the Jets, but not for Derek Carr.

Three of the four teams in the AFC East know who their quarterback will be in 2025. The Buffalo Bills have the best one in Josh Allen. The Miami Dolphins are running it back with Tua Tagovailoa, and the newly revamped New England Patriots have a second-year rising quarterback in Drake Maye. Now the New York Jets…who knows who will be under center for them.

Aaron Rodgers is reportedly not going to be back with the Jets in 2025 now that there is a new regime in the building. There’s no question that the Jets are going to have go out and draft a quarterback, despite having Jordan Travis on the roster. This isn’t a great quarterback class coming into the draft, so it might be best for the Jets to see what the QB market is like once free agency hits.

Every offseason, we see quarterbacks switch teams which is part of the fun and exciting time during free agency. New quarterbacks coming in, old ones going out. Sometimes, we even see a team moving on from one younger quarterback to another, like the Chicago Bears.

Now that the focus of the offseason is happening, it will be a time for fans to look at who could be in a different situation come next season. One of those quarterbacks that could be moving on from his current team is Derek Carr. Joining the New Orleans Saints in 2023, Carr hasn’t exactly had the best tenure with them.

While it is very possible that he could stay in New Orleans for atleast one more season, there is a chance that he might be joining his third team as well. Alex Kay from Bleacher Report is a believer that Carr may not be in New Orleans next season, but they he might become the next quarterback for the New York Jets.

"The Jets have many of the pieces in place to win now, including a defense that ranked No. 4 or better in each of the last three seasons. While Rodgers couldn't elevate the offense in 2024, the 33-year-old Carr could bring some much-needed stability to the Big Apple and help the slumping squad finally snap the longest playoff drought in the four biggest U.S. sports leagues."

Derek Carr to Jets makes sense for New York, but not for Derek Carr

The four-time Pro Bowl quarterback was heart and soul with the Raiders before a nasty breakup after the 2022 season between both sides. Carr has been a good quarterback, with only one true phenomenal season in 2016 where he finished third in the MVP voting.

With the Saints officially hiring Kellen Moore as their next head coach, it will be interesting to see if the Saints opt to keep Carr or not. If they don’t and Carr has the chance to pick where he plays next year, the last place it should be is the Jets.

Carr is approaching the backend of his career and it’s hard to imagine him going to a franchise that has been a joke for a long time. They are coming off a circus type of season and they are going into a rebuild. Carr should want no part of that process.
