Part of being a great team in the NFL is that everyone is watching you closely. If you succeed, you get high praise from fans and analysts. If you have high expectations and under-deliver, you get heavily criticized. Since 2020, the Buffalo Bills have been under the microscope because of their success they had for the last four seasons. Now they look like they have taken a little bit of a step back the last two weeks.

Their offseason was highlighted by the massive overhaul they had of the roster. They had to let go of many veterans due to the salary cap issues they had. However, no move was bigger than the trading of wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans. The Bills and Brandon Beane were ripped apart by the media for this for many weeks.

Through five games of the season, the narrative for the Bills is that trading away Diggs is haunting them because of the lack of receiver production the last two weeks. After the “everybody eats” mentality was introduced in the first three weeks, it has been ineffective for the offense.

While the Bills have their own mess to clean up, they look like the most organized team in the AFC East. Kristopher Knox from Bleacher Report created a list of offseason decisions that look like big time regrets and the rest of the AFC East outside of the Bills made it onto this list.

Know spoke about the moves, or lack of moves by the New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, and the New England Patriots.

For the Dolphins, the decision for them was to not sign a veteran quarterback to backup Tua Tagovailoa. We obviously know what happened to Tua in Week 2 against the Bills where he suffered yet another concussion. The Dolphins opted to keep Skylar Thompson as the backup, who would eventually suffer an injury himself which led to Tyler Huntley being signed by the Dolphins to take the snaps.

The Patriots are in a major rebuild and it started with drafting rookie quarterback Drake Maye with the 3rd overall pick in this year’s draft. The issue with Patriots according to Knox was the little investment that the Patriots did with the offensive line.

"New England has surrendered 19 sacks through five games, while journeyman quarterback Jacoby Brissett has been under pressure on 36.9 percent of his dropbacks."

That is a big yikes for the Patriots, who usually have a solid offensive line.

Then finally, the Jets decided to put all of their eggs in a basket that was a healthy Aaron Rodgers solving all of their problems which was a gigantic mistake on their end. Rodgers is not the MVP candidate player he was a couple seasons ago. While he can still make some impressive throws, this version of Rodgers is not a threat. The Jets’ offense has been struggling this season and New York just fired Robert Saleh this past week for it.

The Buffalo Bills still have trust despite their 2024 offseason moves

There is no doubt that the Bills look like a different team for the worst as of now. However, we can’t ignore the fact that they have built the best team with the most continuity within the AFC East. While they might be in a slump now, it is still early in the season and they have a little bit of time to turn things around. It all starts this coming Monday night against the Jets.
