While the Buffalo Bills have bigger goals to accomplish in 2025, the rest of the AFC East is just looking to catch the Bills for the top of the division. Since 2020, the division has belonged to the Bills after New England ruled it for nearly two decades. Now, while Bills Mafia is beyond thrilled to be at the top of the division, the rest of the division is not.
The Jets and Patriots have new head coaches, while the Dolphins are running it back with Mike McDaniel, but he has yet to prove anything outside of the month of September. As far as the new head coaches in Aaron Glenn and Mike Vrabel, Glenn is taking over a complete rebuild while Vrabel at least has a potential franchise quarterback in Drake Maye. Plus, it also helps that the Patriots went on a spending frenzy in free agency.
No team in the AFC East has enough talent to take down the Bills, but the one team that has the chance to give the Bills some serious trouble is the Patriots. Vrabel is an upgrade for them to lead the team, and New England should have a vastly better defense than last season. At the same time, they are still going to be fighting for second place rather than first in 2025.
Latest trade proposal has Patriots making a desperate move to try and catch Bills
Current analyst and former NFL quarterback David Carr of NFL.com recently listed a trade proposal that he would like to see before the start of the season and the trade is within the AFC East. Carr would like to see Dolphins’ star wide receiver Tyreek Hill be traded to the Patriots. Here’s a bit of what Carr said about this trade proposal:
"The Dolphins might be wary of trading within the division, but if not, the Patriots and Drake Maye certainly could use Hill's services in the passing attack. New England has admirably overhauled the offense this offseason, and Hill would continue that trend by giving Josh McDaniels a guy who can elevate his attack to the next level due to his speed and field-stretching ability."David Carr, NFL.com
First off, having there be a trade within the division is not common at all. But to include a star player in it, absolutely not. At the same, if a trade like this were to happen where Hill comes to New England, it would be great news for the Bills.
The Dolphins would be losing a dynamic player, even though he has been a distraction for the team this offseason and has said that he has wanted out of Miami before changing his stance on it. As far as the Patriots, they are already dealing with a distraction with former Bills wideout Stefon Diggs, who was at the center of an incident already prior to joining the team for OTAs.
Sure, the Bills would still have to deal with Hill in the division if this hypothetical trade were to go down, but Buffalo hasn't struggled against Hill ever since he joined the Dolphins and in New England, it wouldn't be any different.
