The New England Patriots were notorious for making life miserable for the Buffalo Bills for nearly two decades. However, that torture stopped once Tom Brady left New England and bolted for Tampa Bay in 2020. Since then, the Bills have dominated the AFC East by winning four consecutive division titles and are on their way to winning their fifth one this season.

Now their next step is to get far into the playoffs. They have only been to the AFC championship game once and have been eliminated in the divisional round the last three years. In three of the last four years, they have fallen short to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Buffalo has had trouble getting over the hump against the Chiefs and their path just got tougher. Kansas City is the only remaining undefeated left and that is without some of their receivers that they have lost this season. It’s their defense that has been carrying them and the Patriots just helped the Chiefs’ defense get stronger.

Patriots make Bills’ path to Super Bowl much harder

On Monday, the Patriots edge rusher Josh Uche to the Chiefs in exchange for a 2026 6th round pick. The news was reported by Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo. Uche was a healthy scratch this past week against the New York Jets, and it was smart for the Patriots to make it that way since he had been rumored to be traded sooner than later.

The Chiefs already added wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans this week to provide a boost to their receiving game. Now they added extra edge help on a defense that is already near the top of the league. Uche was a valuable player with the Patriots but has had a little bit of a slow start this season.

Pairing him with the defensive scheme that the Chiefs have just makes Kansas City even tougher to deal with. The Patriots have found a way to make life hard for the Bills, since they can’t do it themselves. Instead, they have just helped load up the defending Super Bowl champions.
