The Buffalo Bills had themselves a great Week 2 performance when they hosted the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football and won behind the greatness of Josh Allen and the offense. It was an emotional night considering that it was the first game in the brand new Highmark Stadium, and the Bills kicked off that era by winning 41-31.
Not only did the Bills have the chance for extra rest and preparation for Week 3, but they got the chance to just sit back and watch the other Sunday games. Bills Mafia also didnt have to worry about any sort of stress on Sunday because the Bills entered Sunday at 2-0.
In addition to the win on Thursday night against the Lions, the Bills and their fans got to see some developments happen during the Sunday games that they should be happy to see going into Week 3. Obviously, the biggest thing that directly impacts the Bills was their primetime win, but we didn't include that into this list. We only focused on what happened on Sunday.
Week 2 Sunday events that should have Bills fans smiling big
1.) Jets and Dolphins both losing
Both the Jets and Dolphins leave Week 2 in the loss column, with the Dolphins dropping their second game to go down to 0-2. Miami's rebuild is in full effect and they will be lucky to win more than two games this season. They don't stand a chance within the AFC East.
As for the Jets, they were looking to go 2-0 but their 4th quarter 10-point lead was blown and they lost to the Green Bay Packers in overtime to drop to 1-1. While the Jets have made some noise early on this season, they are still miles behind in the division. Both Miami and New York drop further away from the Bills.
2.) Drake Maye's struggles continuing vs. Steelers
The Patriots are in the win column for the first time this season after dropping their season opener against the Seattle Seahawks. Even though they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers, 20-3, Drake Maye's struggles continued on Sunday. After throwing three interceptions in Week 1 against Seattle, he threw another interception and failed to throw for a touchdown.
Maye and the Patriots will come to Buffalo in Week 4 and if his struggles continue on in Week 3 against Jacksonville, the Bills will have a big time advantage going into that division matchup.
3.) Ravens losing 4th-quarter lead to drop to 1-1
When the Ravens and Bills made head coaching changes, the Ravens were praised for hiring Jesse Minter while the Bills took on a lot of criticism for promoting Joe Brady within. Now through two weeks, Brady is by far the better hire at this point since Minter and the Ravens blew a 17-9 lead to lose 24-17 to the New Orleans Saints.
Last I checked, Minter is a defensive-minded coach and him allowing Tyler Shough to lead a comeback in the 4th quarter isn't a great look on him. Meanwhile, Brady has been helping the Bills' offense light up the scoreboard.
4.) Bengals only putting up 20 points vs. Texans
In Week 1, the Bills' offense put up 36 points on the Texans defense which caught the league by surprise. Now in Week 2, that same defense allowed Joe Burrow and the Bengals' offense to score 20 points.
While it is a significant improvement from their game against the Bills, seeing the Bengals (who have a more serious passing attack threat than the Bills) only put up 20 points while Buffalo managed to put up nearly 40 points should be a great confidence boost. However, these two games may say more about Houston's defense than it does both the Bills and Bengals.
5.) Raiders taking more confidence away from Chargers
The Bills will be hosting the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3, and the Chargers are playing like one of the worst teams in the league. They haven’t just started out 0-2, but their losses have come against the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders, both who were picking in the Top 3 of the NFL Draft this past April.
With Las Vegas beating the Chargers, they managed to take away more confidence from them and now the Chargers will hit the road for the first time to face off against a tough Bills team in front of a rowdy Bills Mafia.
