In less than a week, we will get to see the official 2025 schedule of the Buffalo Bills and we couldn’t be anymore excited. It’s the last season that the Bills will play in their current stadium as their new one is expected to be ready go by 2026. So, it only seems fitting that this is the Bills’ year that they finally deliver a Super Bowl trophy to Bills Mafia.
The official NFL schedule will be released next Wednesday, May 14th at 8PM EST but there will be games that are announced early, specifically big primetime games. Then there always the schedule leaks that come out too. However, nothing is official unti the schedule is finally released.
Team schedules can be exciting or painful to see depending on how it comes out. We have seen teams have some of the easiest schedules, while others have been put through a punishing stretch of games against some of the toughest opponents. Even some of the best teams in the NFL find themselves having tough scheduled games and the Bills could be one of those teams if any of these nightmare scenarios come true come next Wednesday.
5 nightmare scenarios for Bills ahead of NFL schedule release
Bills get an early bye week
All 32 teams should be hoping that they don’t get an early bye week. There is nothing worse than having an early bye week in the season because once it’s over, there is no resting until the postseason (if you’re team doesn’t make it). Injuries happen all the time and it’s always better to have the mid-to-late week bye to let the body rest and get ready for the final stretch going into the playoffs.
The Bills have typically had mid-season bye weeks which is fine. However, they need to hope that their bye week isn’t early on.
Bills face Dolphins in Miami early on
This was a problem back in 2022 when the Bills travled to south beach down in Miami, Florida in the scorching heat. In that Week 3 matchup between the Bills and Dolphins, Buffalo lost nearly half of their roster due to the heat being too extreme and players were cramping up as well as getting dehydrated. Yet, the Bills still nearly came away with a win but lost due to the clock running out on them being down by two points.
Just like how the Dolphins are not built to win in the cold, the Bills are not necessarily setup to have success in the Florida heat. Moving forward, when these two teams meet, the game in Buffalo should be early on and the game in Miami should be later in the season.
Bills face the Patriots twice in second half of the season
This setup happened last year where the Bills didn’t face the Patriots until Week 16 and then two weeks later in Week 18 in the most meaningless game for the Bills in recent memory. We all knew that New England wasn’t going to be a threat in 2024, but they weren’t a pushover either. They gave the Bills a little bit of a scare in Week 16, where Buffalo escaped with a close win.
The Patriots had one of the busiest offseasons in the NFL and they have significantly improved. While it will take some time for them to click in the season, teams usually play their best football later in the season because they have corrected any mistakes that were made in the beginning.
New England is going to be the team that challenges the Bills for the AFC East. While they won’t be a serious threat, don’t think the Patriots won’t claim a wild card spot. If Buffalo and New England don’t face each other again until late in the season, there is a chance that we could see Drake Maye and the Patriots pulling off an upset (or maybe two) against the Bills.
Bills face the Browns and Steelers late in the season
The Bills will be taking on the entire AFC North which is the Bengals, Ravens, Steelers, and Browns. While Cincinati and Baltimore are coming to Buffalo, the Bills will be traveling to Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Just like Buffalo, it gets cold in Pittsburgh and Cleveland and the AFC North is not afraid to run the ball.
If the Bills have to travel to both Pittsburgh and Cleveland late in the season, with both of them having the ability to run the ball effectively, this could be trouble for the Bills’ defense. While Buffalo made improvements upfront on their defense, we have to see that it actually comes together.
Bills get the Chiefs, Eagles, Ravens, and Bengals in consecutive weeks
Now this would be the ultimate “You have got to be kidding me” moment on the schedule for the Bills if they have to take on the Chiefs, Ravens, Bengals, and Eagles in consecutive weeks. It doesn’t get any harder than that. Luckily, all four of these teams are coming to Buffalo so there is a home-field advantage.
However, getting them in consecutive weeks would just simply not be fair for the Bills. They are some of the best teams in the league. While it would be a thrilling stretch of games, it can also be a major punch in the gut if things go south.
