Familiar veteran free agent CB could help bring short-term stability to Bills

He's past his prime, but he knows Buffalo very well.

It’s not a secret that the Buffalo Bills desperately need to bring in some cornerback help. In Buffalo’s biggest losses over the last couple of years, cornerback has been one of their major weaknesses that has played a role in the Bills getting their heart broken.

The Bills traded Kaiir Elam to the Dallas Cowboys and Rasul Douglas still remains unsigned. With only having Christian Benford and Taron Johnson as notable starters is a bit of an issue. Even though the Bills brought back Dane Jackson, who spent last season in Carolina, Buffalo still needs a true CB2 and depth.

With Buffalo needing some sort of stability in the secondary, maybe they take the route of drafting a corner who could be an immediate starter. They just can’t afford to reach once again. One avenue that the Bills could take to atleast provide some sort of stability is to bring in a familiar veteran not named Rasul Douglas…

A Bills-and-Tre'Davious White reunion makes a lot of sense

When the Bills drafted Tre’Davious White back in 2017, little did we know that he would eventually become a shutdown corner early in his career in Buffalo. He was a true lockdown defender who could stand his ground against any receiver. White was a two-time Pro Bowler and earned First-Team All-Pro honors in 2019.

In 2021, White’s productive career started to take a decline when he tore his ACL on Thanksgiving Day against the New Orleans Saints. Then in 2023, White would tear his achilles in Week 4 against the Miami Dolphins. He played in just 20 games from 2021-2023 due to big-time injuries.

White was a cap casualty for the Bills last offseason and he signed with the Los Angeles Rams on a one-year deal in hopes of bouncing back as the player he once was with the Bills. Instead, he struggled in LA and was eventually traded to the Baltimore Ravens in the middle of the season.

White is only 30 years old and Spotrac lists his market value at just $1.4 million. Giving White a one-year deal for just that amount would be a low risk/high reward move for the Bills. Especially given the fact that White knows the culture of the organization and knows exactly what Buffalo is trying to accomplish.

Maybe White has lost a step. Maybe he won’t be the same player he once was. However, who knows how he would be with being back in a familiar area and in a familiar scheme. Sign White and draft a corner for the future. It’s quite simple.
