With the NFL Draft taking place tomorrow, fans will finally get to see what direction the Buffalo Bills will go beginning in the first round and going through Saturday. With a new look at One Bills Drive now that Joe Brady is the head coach, and Brandon Beane will continue running the draft room, fans will be wondering what plan of attack is to build up this team.
Buffalo is in a tough spot being at No. 26 overall in the first round, and then not having another pick until late in the third round (No. 91). Even though their resources are a bit limited, there are four players currently on the Bills that could be put on notice depending on what the Bills do in the first three rounds of the draft.
Bills could create competition for 4 players currently on roster
Dorian Williams, LB
Buffalo is switching to a 3-4 defense and while they need to add to the linebacker room, them drafting a linebacker early on could put Dorian Williams on notice. While it would be unlikely that Williams wouldn’t make the roster come August, if he is outshined by a rookie linebacker, he may be nothing more than a rotational player once again. With him going into a contract year, he will need to prove that he has a ton of value, whether it’s with Buffalo or someone else.
Joshua Palmer, WR
Throughout this offseason, a lot of attention has been on Keon Coleman (and for good reason). However, Joe Brady has been insisting that him become the next head coach of the Bills is great for Coleman. While fans will wait to see if that is true, Joshua Palmer is a receiver that should be noticed more on whether or not he could be on the roster come August.
In his first season with the Bills last season, Palmer failed to reach the endzone and finished with just 303 yards before suffering a season-ending injury ahead of the playoffs. Buffalo should be looking to draft a receiver and if they do, Palmer could be in serious roster trouble.
O'Cyrus Torrence, OL
Buffalo is going to have to take a look at their 2023 draft class and see who they are interested in keeping. O’Cyrus Torrence has been Buffalo’s second best draft pick from that draft behind Dalton Kincaid. However, he is entering a contract year and if the Bills do end up drafting offensive line depth who can play inside, that could put Torrence on notice and 2026 could very well be his final season in Buffalo.
Landon Jackson, EDGE
Landon Jackson was a big miss from last year’s draft. At the time, it seemed like Buffalo getting him in the third round was a steal but it was just another miss that the Bills had. Jackson played in just three games before suffering a season-ending knee injury. If Buffalo goes out and drafts an edge rusher or two, Jackson is going to be in a tough predicament to make the final roster.
