With another nail-biting Week 6 road win over the Las Vegas Raiders, the Buffalo Bills can go home heading into their bye week with a 5-1 record. While the game brought thrilling moments for both teams, the Bills once again found a way to win a close game that they needed to stay on top of first place in the AFC East.
The game's most pivotal moments began in the third quarter and lasted until the end of the game, as reflected in the final score. Let's take a look at four crucial turning points that helped propel the Bills with the momentum needed to pull this game out.
4 key moments Bills won over Raiders
1.) Josh Allen's dazzling pass to Keon Coleman
While the first major turning point occurred in the 3rd quarter, the Bills faced a 3rc-and-long and needed a score, or the ball would have been turned back over to the Raiders with the Bills still up 16-13. But as he has done throughout his eight-year career with the Bills, Josh Allen threw a clutch shovel backhanded pass to wideout Keon Coleman while facing a four-man rush.
This put the Bills up 23-13 and also tied Allen with Jim Kelly as the Bills' all-time leader in touchdown passes with 258; it was a game-changing play. While the Bills took a 13-13 halftime tie and turned it into a two-possession lead in the third quarter, it shifted the energy entirely.
2.) Dorian Williams 1st career interception
With the game still tight in the second half, the tackling machine Dorian Williams snagged his first career interception off Kirk Cousins deep in Raiders territory, flipping the field position and stopping a Raiders scoring drive.
Since being drafted in 2023, Williams has been known as a bigger, faster linebacker who can lay the lumber. But until now, he had never been rewarded with an interception, as he has a reputation for not being a strong coverage linebacker.
But now, with his first interception of his career, the 6-foot-1, 228-pound athlete can start changing the narrative one pick at a time.
3.) James Cook's go-ahead touchdown run in fourth quarter
After the Raiders scored 10 unanswered points to tie the score at 23-23, the Bills offense responded with a James Cook touchdown to put the Bills ahead again 30-23 with 4:43 remaining. This score was pivotal because just when the Raiders looked like they had the momentum and the home crowd on their side, the Bills' road fans and Cook silenced them.
It was also critical to score a touchdown there, because had the Bills kicked a field goal, the Raiders would have had a chance to at least tie the game with a field goal or take the lead with a touchdown.
4.) Tyler Bass puts game away with 38-yard field goal
After the two-minute warning, with the Raiders out of timeouts, Tyler Bass drilled a clutch 38-yard field goal to put the Bills up by two scores at 33-23. Bass finished the day 4-for-4, but that fourth field goal he made was bigger than any of the first three successful ones.
The Raiders would respond with a late touchdown pass, but they failed to recover the onside kick, and the Bills remain atop the AFC East with a 33-30 West Coast sweep.
