Tomorrow is the final preseason game for the Buffalo Bills, and they will be back at Highmark Stadium to host the Pittsburgh Steelers. This is the final game before the games start to really count record-wise. However, this is also the final game for some players to fight for a roster spot.
Yesterday, fans learned that the offensive line is officially solidified as Alec Anderson has been named the team's starting left guard to open the season, per ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg. While there is another key position battle going on in the defense, this game is a true final shot for a lot of players to show that they deserve a roster spot going into September.
5 Bills with one last chance to impress coaching staff in final preseason game
LB Joe Andreessen
While there is a battle between Dorian Williams and Kaleb Elarms-Orr for the final starting linebacker job, you could make the case that there is an overall roster spot battle going on between LBs Joe Andreessen and Keonta Jenkins.
Andreessen has been with the Bills since 2024 after signing as an undrafted free agent, and he’s been on the main roster. However, Jenkins is having a great camp and preseason. With the switch in the defensive scheme, that is going to leave someone on the outside looking in. Even though Andreessen has the experience with the Bills, this new-look that the Bills have could mean anything.
WR Dante Pettis
The Bills signed Pettis not too long ago, but with their being limited spots in the wide receiver room, Pettis may only have a serious chance to make it from a special teams factor, and even then, Mecole Hardman and Ray Davis would more than likely have the edge over him. Unless he has an absolute perfect game against the Steelers, this could be his last game as a member of the Bills.
S Geno Stone
Safety was a position that the Bills addressed this past offseason and Geno Stone was signed as a free agent along with C.J. Gardner-Johnson. While Stone has been a ballhawk in his career (13 interceptions the last 3 seasons), he has not had a great camp. Not to mention, Damar Hamlin has been outshining him. This final preseason game could be his final chance to make a great impression.
CB Toriano Pride Jr.
The cornerback situation for the Bills is an interesting one. The top corner is Christian Benford by a mile, and then you have Dee Alford as the nickel. Then you have Maxwell Hairston and Davison Igbinosun, who you could argue are in a competition as well for the second corner spot.
After them, that’s where the depth comes into play. Someone like Toriano Pride Jr., who the Bills drafted in the 7th round of this year’s NFL Draft has been overlooked. He hasn’t made any massive plays that stand out, so this game against Pittsburgh could be his final shot. He could very well be competing against someone like Te’Cory Couch.
