When you think of the best teams in the NFL, the Buffalo Bills should immediately come to mind seeing as how they are a consistent playoff-bound team who have come so close to reaching the Super Bowl. Even though Josh Allen is under center, the Bills have gone as far as the conference championship game.
With them going into a new era, there is a ton of curiosity surrounding the Bills. New head coach (with a new staff), new players, and a new stadium. A bunch of new things for a new season, and fans can't wait for kickoff this Sunday down in Houston.
Despite all of the hype that has been around the Bills, there is always a world where they could easily disappoint everyone that has high hopes for them. There are four players on the Bills that face some kind of high expectation, but they could find themselves disappointing fans this season.
4 Bills who could be disappointing players for fans in 2026
RB James Cook
The NFL's leading rusher from a season ago has established himself as one of the best backs in football since 2023. With the Bills having major wide receiver issues last season, that helped Cook have 309 carries last season and he avearged over 5 yards per carry.
While Joe Brady is still calling the offense, the Bills acquired DJ Moore who should be heavily involved with the offense. Not to mention, if Dalton Kincaid stays healthy and contributes, that could also interfere with Cook getting high volume.
WR DJ Moore
Buffalo made the big trade acquisition to land DJ Moore from the Chicago Bears to give Josh Allen his new No. 1 receiver. Moore has been in a tough situation the last two seasons with Chicago with a rookie Caleb Williams in 2024, and then a new head coach in Ben Johnson who was calling the plays.
Moore hasn't reached 1,000 yards since 2023 when Justin Fields was his quarterback. However, he did have success in Carolina when Joe Brady was the offensive coordinator from 2020-2021. It seems like the perfect setup, but there is also a ton on the line for Moore to deliver big time for the Bills considering what they gave up for him in the trade.
Brady has always been about spreading the ball around, so Moore' target share may not be as high as fans hope for.
OLB Bradley Chubb
Moore was Buffalo's move they made through a trade, but signing Bradley Chubb in free agency was their biggest signing. Coming from the Miami Dolphins, Chubb will look to help bring a pass rush that the Bills have been lacking for awhile. He is looked at as a big time leader in Jim Leonhard's defense and he is a perfect fit for the scheme.
At the same time, Chubb does have an injury history with his most recent one being in late 2023 with a torn ACL that caused him to miss the 2024 season. Luckily, the Bills brought in extra outside linebackers this offseason which should take some pressure off of Chubb, but there is always a concern about the injury factor.
S C.J. Gardner-Johnson
The addition of C.J. Gardner-Johnson should bring the Bills’ defense the intensity that it hasn’t had before. He’s not afraid to be vocal and he’s definitely not afraid to call people out. While he hasn’t been able to establish himself somewhere for more than three seasons, he is a solid defender.
With his energy that he has shown already, it would be a huge letdown if his presence didn’t make the impact that fans were hoping for.
