As the Buffalo Bills prepare for the upcoming 2025 NFL draft, they still have some holes that need to be addressed. Along with a decent amount of cap space to add a player or two before the draft approaches. Spotrac has the Bills sitting with $6M in available cap space, enough to add some under-the-radar free agents. Let’s take a look at several.
WR DJ Chark
Continuing with the LA>BUF additions, DJ Chark has been a reliable target for years now, shown by his 2023 production with the Carolina Panthers where he totaled 35 receptions for 525 yards and five touchdowns.
In a year with rookie Bryce Young and Andy Dalton throwing the ball, Chark continued to be an easy target to go to. Now with Buffalo in need of some wide receiver depth, Chark comes in at a very affordable price and allows the Bills to have options on draft night.
Chark, 28, has plenty left in the tank, and as Spotrac projects, could sign for a $1.5M contract. The Bills did this same thing last year with Chase Claypool and Marquez Valdez-Scantling, where they signed them to cheap contracts that won’t affect their cap space too much if it doesn’t work out. With Chark continuing to sit in free agency, the Bills should come calling.
EDGE Matthew Judon
Despite adding Joey Bosa, the Bills still have a glaring need at the defensive end position. Edge rusher figures to be very high on the Bills' draft board, and is becoming the likely first-round pick. If the Bills don’t land their guy, Matthew Judon provides the team with enough depth that they won’t have to worry about making a panic pick.
Judon had a pretty decent year with the Atlanta Falcons in 2024, totaling 5.5 sacks and 41 tackles through 15 starts. Having Judon rotate in with Greg Rousseau, AJ Epenesa, and Joey Bosa will make Sean McDermott extremely happy.
S Marcus Maye
Safety may not be a pressing need, but as we sit currently, the Bills only roster four Safeties. Maye has years of starting experience and can be this year's Kareem Jackson in what is a very young Safety room between Cole Bishop and Darrick Forrest. Maye has a lengthy injury history, but none that have kept him out for a number of games.
His most recent injury came in 2024 when he injured his ankle and missed the final two games of the season. At 32 years old and entering his ninth season in the league, Maye should look to go to a contender to end his career, while also providing Buffalo with some experienced depth in their secondary.
