The Buffalo Bills have already begun their OTA practices under first-year head coach Joe Brady with high expectations once again this season. With Super Bowl aspirations for this year's team, last season ended with concerning questions.

The team knows what they must achieve this season, so the front office will have an easier decision to make regarding players on expiring contracts in 2027. For now, it's completing step one of the process before moving on to mandatory minicamp and then training camp at St. John Fisher University.

Let's take a look at three players whose contracts will expire in 2027 and why they must show they can earn a new contract.

Three players who need to shine this season to make the cut

1.) G O'Cyrus Torrence

Torrence is a vast player with great strength and technique who has become a staple at right guard for the Bills' highly ranked offensive line. The 6-foot-5, 330-pound guard looks more athletic, and is known as a stout run blocker for the 2025 rushing champion James Cook. He's also powerful enough to protect 6-foot-5, 237-pound superstar quarterback Josh Allen.

With left guard David Edwards departing in free agency to the New Orleans Saints, this opens up the door for Torrence to prove he should be paid top guard money after his rookie contract is over, after this season.

2.) LB Dorian Williams

Williams was one of Buffalo's biggest linebackers when the team was running the 4-3 scheme under former head coach Sean McDermott.

The underrated run defender is great at sacking the quarterback, which is why he must be a better fit in Jim Leonhard's 3-4 scheme if he wants his payday to come in Buffalo in the offseason.

3.) G Alec Anderson

After Edwards left to sign with the Saints in free agency, Anderson must fill the gap left by his departure, underscoring his importance to the team's strength if he wants to be the Bills' new starting left guard. Anderson made the Bills roster in 2024 out of training camp, showing the coaches that he is ready to step up and compete.

The 6-foot-5, 305-pound guard brings that fiery energy vocally and plays with a mean streak, whereas Edwards was calmer. While Edwards could only play left guard, Anderson is versatile and athletic enough to move around the line and play guard, tackle, or even center.

Right now, the left guard competition is open, and if Anderson wants a bigger payday beyond his current one-year contract, he must win that job on opening day.

While these three players must be out on the field a majority of the time, showing what they've got, they know reality, which is that effort is earned, as coach Brady would often say, "Be with us" , and go play with energy and toughness in order to earn their offseason worth.
