The running back position was another that the Buffalo Bills theoretically could have added to in the 2023 NFL Draft. The run game hasn’t been that productive and with some generational running backs like Bijan Robinson, it seemed like a possibility.

Fortunately, Bijan Robinson went well before the Buffalo Bills pick and they didn’t have to make that decision. In fact, the Bills didn’t draft any running back in the 2023 NFL Draft which is only the second time in the past five years that they didn’t.

The player who benefits the most from the Bills avoiding running back has to be Damien Harris, who they signed to a one-year deal in free agency. While the Bills did bring in Harris, it was only a one-year deal and he could have been released before the season.

However, Damien Harris now looks like he has a defined role as the power back alongside James Cook. On top of the Bills not drafting a running back, they got him help on the interior with O’Cyrus Torrence. He is not a very athletic offensive guard but he can clear space in the middle of the field, which is where Harris probably will be running the most.
