Personal tragedy and harrowing illness cost Bresee significant time in 2022

Still battling back from injuries as he entered the 2022 season, Bresee’s life was rocked by tragedy and personal struggles.  His sister Ella was diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer, and when Bresee returned to Clemson for the 2022 season, he did so with an “Ella Strong” tattoo on his right forearm.

The entire Clemson team honored Ella for her fight against cancer before a home game against Furman on September 10. Following that game, Bresee missed the Tigers’ home game against Louisiana Tech to go home to be with his family, and Ella passed away not long after at just 15 years old.

Still dealing with the shocking and sudden loss of his sister, Bresee’s own health was dealt a serious blow in late September of 2022. Diagnosed with a kidney infection, Bresee missed three more games. The infection caused him to lose approximately 45 pounds, and he struggled to work back into football shape.

It would be a huge strain on anyone’s body to lose that much weight due to an infection. For an elite-level competitive athlete, the power and strength that it would sap completely change the profile of the athlete.

For Bresee just to work back into playing shape during the season and return to competitive football was impressive. For him to then go on and post a Relative Athletic Score of 9.59, which is truly elite (10.0 is perfect) truly is incredible and is a testament to the type of worker and person that Bresee is and just one of the multitude of reasons that he should be a target of the Buffalo Bills.
