Jordan Phillips
The defensive tackle position is another one that the Buffalo Bills don’t really have a long-term answer at as all defensive tackles on the roster are only signed through the upcoming season.
If the Buffalo Bills want to add a player in this NFL Draft to the position to develop into a starter, the team will have a tough decision on who to release to create that roster spot. The two players that likely would be in consideration are Tim Settle and Jordan Phillips.
Unfortunately, Tim Settle’s contract probably takes him out of the discussion after he agreed to a renegotiated deal earlier this offseason. It created cap savings at the time but if he were to be released before the season the dead cap would be higher than the cap savings.
Jordan Phillips returned to the Buffalo Bills last offseason and looked to pick up right where he left off the last time he played in Buffalo back in 2019. In the first two games, Phillips had 1.5 sacks and 4 QB hits but then injuries would derail a promising season. The Buffalo Bills were able to re-sign him to a one-year contract recently.
There is no question that Jordan Phillips can be productive in this defense but with limited roster spots, a lengthy injury history and about $1.6 million in cap space, he likely would be the player cut if they drafted a defensive tackle during the NFL Draft.
