The defensive tackle position is one that looks to be set for the upcoming season as the Buffalo Bills have all four players at the position from last year’s team returning after reaching a one-year deal with Jordan Phillips. He is joined by Ed Oliver, DaQuan Jones and Tim Settle.

The Buffalo Bills should be confident in this group for this upcoming season but there is uncertainty past this season as all four players are set to be free agents. That is why the Bills may look to add one, or even two defensive tackles, in the 2023 NFL Draft.

If the team wants a potential replacement for Ed Oliver then former University of Michigan defensive tackle Mazi Smith could be a good fit. The Bills already have had Smith in Buffalo for a Top 30 visit and there appears to be interest from the team.

Mazi Smith is bigger than Ed Oliver at 6’3″ and 323 pounds but possesses great athleticism and quickness that allows him to penetrate and make plays in the backfield. He could replace that pass rushing production of Oliver while bringing a little more in terms of run defense.
