Buffalo Bills: 3 risky Draft day trades to move up and add a playmaker
By Ryan Heckman
Trade Number 2: The Buffalo Bills make a deal with the Green Bay Packers
The second trade scenario sees the Bills pick up the phone and call a franchise in limbo, the Green Bay Packers. Since the Aaron Rodgers conundrum has yet to find itself a (happy?) ending, Green Bay has somewhat been stalled in terms of making bigger, more necessary moves.
Here, though, the Packers set themselves up with some additional draft capital for the future while allowing Buffalo to move up.
The Trade
In this deal, the Packers send their no. 15 overall selection, along with a sixth-round pick the year, in exchange for the Bills’ no. 27 pick, a third rounder this year and a second-round pick in 2024. In total, the Bills move up 12 spots and take a huge risk, drafting a first-round running back.
The Pick
Texas stud running back Bijan Robinson is one of the best running back prospects of the last decade, and he comes into the NFL ready to go as a three-down back. He can do everything well, and that’s not an understatement. If ever there was the most perfectly, well-rounded back coming out of college, Robinson is that guy.
Now, this is maybe the biggest risk of all three trades here, because the Bills already have James Cook and the newly-signed Damien Harris. If Robinson were to be the pick, then Cook should be moved, no question.
But, with Robinson in the back field, the Bills’ rushing attack could leap into the top-5 of the NFL, knowing what Allen can do with his legs as well. Robinson is a workhorse and someone who gets better as the game goes on. When the defense gets tired, Robinson continues to excel.
Last season, Robinson ran for 1,580 yards and 18 touchdowns with the Longhorns.
