Cornerback

Last year the cornerback position was tested due to injuries with Tre’Davious missing the first half of the year as he recovered from an ACL injury. The Bills then had Dane Jackson miss a few weeks as well as rookie Christian Benford, who suffered a broken hand.

In fact, the only cornerback to play defensive snaps every regular season game last season was nickel Taron Johnson.

While this created challenges during the season, it gives the Buffalo Bills an advantage going into the 2023 season. The depth at the position is in a much better place and the Bills don’t need to look to add any more draft picks to this group.

Entering the 2023 season, the Bills should have Tre’Davious White and Kaiir Elam as their starting cornerbacks with Taron Johnson stepping back into his role as starting nickel. The Bills then have Dane Jackson, who has 20 starts over the past two years, as the first backup if White or Elam miss time. This leaves Christian Benford as the fourth cornerback and if he moves to safety the Bills have Cam Lewis returning to step in at that spot on the depth chart.

The cornerback position is probably one of the strongest positions on the roster and the Buffalo Bills should use their draft picks this year on other positions.
