Mistakes the Buffalo Bills must avoid in 2023 NFL Draft: Trading up if not for an unmistakable value
We have already established the fact that the Bills only have six picks to work with. And, if anything, trading back for additional draft capital seems to be the most logical trade scenario. Aside from trading a pick for someone like DeAndre Hopkins, the Bills should not be throwing any picks away.
To put it simply, Beane cannot end up with less than six rookies drafted at the end of the weekend. The only reason Buffalo should even consider trading up is if there’s an unmistakable value that cannot be passed up.
What would that look like? Well, let’s say there’s a receiver like Quentin Johnston or Jaxon Smith-Njigba sitting there past pick no. 21 or 22. If that’s the case, then the Bills should absolutely make a move to go up and get them.
But, if they did, Buffalo should do whatever they can to only part with this year’s no. 27 pick, and offer a pick in next year’s draft as additional compensation. Ending up with just five picks after a trade like that could be highly detrimental to the roster.
