The Bills don’t yet know exactly how they will replace former inside linebacker Tremaine Edmunds after he signed with the Chicago Bears. But, there will likely be a competition to do so. In the fifth round, Buffalo adds to that competition with Indiana linebacker Cam Jones.
As a three-year starter, Jones comes in with plenty of experience. He is more of a one-dimensional player in the respect that he defends the run very well. He’s great at diagnosing plays and shooting the gaps.
However, his speed will prevent him from being a true threat in pass coverage. Running his 40-yard dash in 4.69 seconds, Jones possesses average speed.
Jones’ physicality and play style should offer special teams potential as a rookie, if nothing else. He would fit well as a possible standout in that realm, but if he can find a way to get just a little faster, he could find himself competing for a starting job.
