Running Back. Tavion Thomas. . player. Pick Analysis. 843. . Scouting Report

Tavion Thomas certainly fits the description of a “bigger” back.  At 6 feet tall and weighing 237 pounds, he brings a load.

Thomas began his collegiate career at Cincinnati, where he spent his first two years, amassing 683 yards on 130 carries for a 5.24 yards per carry average.  He also produced seven touchdowns.

He elected to transfer to the University of Utah to continue his college career.  His junior year was by far his best, carrying the ball 204 times for 1,106 yards and an incredible 21 touchdowns, setting Utah’s school record.  He would follow this up his senior year with 142 carries, and 676 yards and added another seven touchdowns.

Thomas was not utilized much in the passing game at Cincinnati or Utah, producing only ten receptions throughout his career.  Was this due to scheme or is there some concern that he simply isn’t very good in the passing game?  One thing is certain, his 35 career touchdowns show he has a nose for the endzone and has a short yardage/goal line back, that’s the number one goal.

At the 2023 NFL Combine, Thomas ran an official 40-time of 4.74.  While that’s not exactly blazing, for a 237-pound young man, that’s not bad.  Thomas is currently projected as a seventh-round, day-three selection.
