The NFL offseason is about to kick up a notch this week, as free agency starts and trades will start to filter in more and more. The Buffalo Bills might be a bit cash-strapped, but that doesn’t mean they can’t figure out a way to make some significant moves.

First and foremost, let’s just trust Brandon Beane to figure out the cap. Plenty of general managers have proven to restructure contracts in a way that can free up tons of space, and Beane is more than capable of doing the same.

For a moment, let’s pretend the cap is a myth, as the saying goes. If that’s true, then the Bills should definitely be interested in Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook, who is rumored to be on the trade block, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

The Vikings apparently want to offload Cook’s contract as they’ve been able to do by cutting ties with a few veterans so far.

The Buffalo Bills could trade for Dalvin Cook, uniting him with his brother James Cook in a lethal back field

Dalvin is coming off his fourth-straight 1,000-yard season in Minnesota, along with his fourth-straight Pro Bowl appearance. As one of the league’s best running backs over the past few seasons, he’s definitely seen his fair share of usage.

He’s also seen his fair share of injury concerns.

However, if used correctly and in conjunction with his brother James, Dalvin could be the spark plug this offense needed.

As it stands, Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs are the only real reliable weapons this offense has. One could also argue Dawson Knox, but we’re talking about game-changing, difference-making type players.

Should Cook actually become available, the Bills must at least float out a mid-round pick. Running backs aren’t worth as much as they used to be, especially considering Cook’s contract, which counts $14 million against the cap in 2023.

Giving it at least a one-year shot by trading for him could propel the Bills into Super Bowl contention. This is the type of move a Super Bowl team makes, so let’s hope Beane jumps at the opportunity to make it happen.
