Free agent the Buffalo Bills should avoid: Juju Smith-Schuster

In what is considered a rather weak free agent class at wide receiver, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Juju Smith-Schuster end up with the biggest contract at the position. However, the Buffalo Bills should avoid the temptation of being the team to offer such a deal.

Juju Smith-Schuster had a bounce-back year in his first season with the Kansas City Chiefs. He had played for the Pittsburgh Steelers for his first five seasons in the league and after the 2018 season when he had nearly 1,500 receiving yards, he looked poised to be the next great wide receiver.

However, he struggled in his final seasons in Pittsburgh and this past year with the Chiefs he did play better with 78 receptions, 933 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns.

The concern is that he posted these numbers last season with Patrick Mahomes throwing him the football, who is arguably one of the best quarterbacks in the league, in a Chiefs offense that is widely regarded as one of the most creative.

He certainly would fill a need for the Buffalo Bills in the slot but this past season seemed like the ceiling for Juju Smith-Schuster and when considering the contract he is likely to receive, this doesn’t seem like a smart move for the Bills.
