Free agent the Buffalo Bills should avoid: D.J. Chark

The Buffalo Bills are going to be looking to add some speed to their wide receiver position this offseason and D.J. Chark on the surface would be a good fit. He began his career playing four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars before signing with the Detroit Lions this past offseason and played last year there.

Chark’s best season to date was in 2019 when he had 73 receptions, 1,008 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns and was recognized with a Pro Bowl nomination. He also has shown some big play ability over his career with an average of 13.8 yards per reception.

However, there are too many red flags that should force the Buffalo Bills to look elsewhere at the wide receiver position. The first is a lengthy injury history during his NFL career as he has yet to play a full regular season and has played 12 or more games in one season twice.

Another concern is drops with 14 over his five years in the NFL and he has a career catch rate of only 55.8%. This was an issue for Gabe Davis and the other wide receivers and adding another wide receiver with these concerns wouldn’t do the offense any good.
