Salary cap situation for the Buffalo Bills
While the 2023 salary cap increased to $224.8 million for 2023, according to Over The Cap projects the team as currently constructed at $244,418,139 or about $19.2 million over the cap. There are several moves that the Bills can make to drastically change their cap situation for 2023, including:
- Restructuring contracts of current players (Josh Allen, Von Miller, Stefon Diggs)
- Trading desirable players with large contracts who could be replaced with cheaper players via free agency or the draft (Ed Oliver)
- Roster cuts (Nyheim Hines, Isaiah McKenzie)
The problem for the Bills is that the moves that will make the greatest impact either move money down the road (Allen, Miller, Diggs) or would create significant holes in their roster (trades such as Oliver) which would then cost either money or draft picks to replace. This brings us to the fourth reason for the hesitation of the Buffalo Bills trading for Henry.
