3 lessons Buffalo Bills should learn from Super Bowl contenders in 2023

The Buffalo Bills began the year with a great deal of promise and looked like they had a real chance to be playing in Sunday’s game in Arizona. This team certainly has the talent to be competing for a Super Bowl but in the end, they would come up short with a disappointing loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Divisional Round.

While they didn’t reach the Super Bowl this year, their pursuit of the Lombardi Trophy will not stop and they should once again be considered a Super Bowl contender next season. While watching this game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, the Bills could take a few lessons from these teams that can be applied to how they approach the offseason and next season.

Pressure the quarterback consistently

This is something the Buffalo Bills have known for a few years now and they certainly have tried to improve the pass rush with high draft picks like A.J. Epenesa, Greg Rousseau, and Boogie Basham. This past offseason they brought in veteran Von Miller to lead this young group and there were improvements when he was on the field but after his injury, the pass rush seemed to disappear.

The Bills have too much talent at the position to have a key part of their defense disappear when one player is unable to play.

One thing that the Philadephia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs have done an excellent job of this season is pressure percentage, which is the number of pressures by dropbacks. According to Pro Football Reference, the Eagles are second in the league at 25.5% and the Chiefs were fifth at 24.9% meanwhile the Bills ranked 14th at 22.2%.

A returning Von Miller should help next season but they will need more development from their young pass rushers like Greg Rousseau.
