Buffalo Bills top salary cap hits for 2023: Von Miller, $18.6 million
Last offseason, the Bills appeared to have made the best possible move they could have in free agency when they signed pass rusher Von Miller to a 6-year, $120 million contract. To begin the season, Miller totaled 8.0 sacks in 11 games.
Like White, Miller got hurt on Thanksgiving, but just a year after the corner did. It was as big of a blow the Bills could have endured last season, and completely changed the rest of the year for Buffalo. To that point, the Bills defense went as Miller went. He was the catalyst for their pass rush, yes, but became the center point of everything that unit did.
Without Miller on the field, the defense had a hard time generating a consistent pass rush. Gregory Rousseau was efficient in terms of pass rush win rate, but the Bills didn’t have anyone else close to his productivity. With offensive lines being able to focus on Rousseau, they didn’t have another legitimate pass rusher to worry about.
Brandon Beane has already acknowledged that Miller could be out for a good chunk of the 2023 season, so this offseason Buffalo would serve themselves well by drafting another edge rusher to come in and compete, pushing the other guys.
