Buffalo Bills will be without two defensive starters for this game but get one of their key players back in Week 9

The Buffalo Bills are entering a key AFC East matchup with a number of important players on defense out this week. The Bills knew on Friday that safety Jordan Poyer would be unavailable as the team ruled him out for Week 9.

However, in addition to Poyer the Bills will also be without linebacker Matt Milano, who was questionable for this game due to an oblique injury. It appeared there was a chance he might be able to play after getting a limited practice on Friday but that is no longer the case.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, the Bills will look to rookie linebacker Terrel Bernard to replace Milano. Bernard was a third round pick out of Baylor in the 2022 NFL Draft and made some big plays in the preseason.

In addition to Jordan Poyer and Matt Milano both inactive, the Buffalo Bills will have to wait one more week for the return of cornerback Tre’Davious White. He has been working his way back from the torn ACL suffered against the New Orleans Saints last year and began the year on the PUP list.

He was moved to the active roster on Tuesday but the Bills appear to want to be extra cautious and will give him at least one more week before he returns. The Buffalo Bills once again will look to the trio of Dane Jackson, Kaiir Elam and Christian Benford to play at cornerback.

While the Bills won’t have the three starters on defense, they do have both players they traded for this week active with running back Nyheim Hines and safety Dean Marlowe. Both players should have a role on Sunday against the New York Jets.
