While Benford did start three of the first four games and passed first round pick Kaiir Elam on the depth chart when the former University of Florida cornerback has been on the field he also has looked rather impressive.

Elam has started the past two games and opposing quarterbacks have been testing him more than Benford. On the season, he has been targeted 16 times and has allowed 11 receptions but has only given up 97 receiving yards, an average of only 8.8 yards per reception.

He also has had 15 total tackles and one pass defended to begin the year.

Both Christian Benford and Kaiir Elam are going to have growing pains and make rookie mistakes. However, in large part, those haven’t happened very often and both players have been impressive to begin the season.
