Khalil Skahir should have a bigger role against the Steelers

Another position the Buffalo Bills are dealing with injuries at is slot receiver. The team has primarily had Isaiah McKenzie and Jamison Crowder at the position but McKenzie is currently in concussion protocol and Crowder suffered a broken ankle against the Baltimore Ravens.

While McKenzie has a chance to return as he was able to practice on a limited basis on Wednesday, it isn’t a guarantee that he is able to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers. This would mean that rookie Khalil Shakir would be the next man up and could have an expanded role this week.

Last week after the injuries to McKenzie and Crowder, it was Shakir who replaced them and he had two receptions for 23 yards.

In addition to the potential increase in snaps on offense, Shakir is going to be the starting punt returner. At the end of practice on Wednesday, Sal Capaccio noted that Shakir was not on the practice field and the reason was he went to the stadium to take punts inside Highmark Stadium.

Khalil Shakir looked great in preseason and now should have a chance to show what he can do in the regular season.
