5 takeaways for the Buffalo Bills in Week 4 against Baltimore Ravens
Jordan Poyer is the key to this defense
The Buffalo Bills have one of the best defenses in the NFL and have great players at every level. The names that typically come to mind right away is Von Miller, Tre’Davious White, and Micah Hyde.
The Bills unfortunately haven’t had Tre’Davious White all season and will not have Micah Hyde for the remainder of the year.
One player that has seemingly been overlooked is Jordan Poyer. One of the team’s starting safeties hasn’t always gotten the recognition around the league for his play and certainly hasn’t even when discussing this defense.
On Sunday, he showed why he is the key that brings this defense together as he was making plays all over the field with six total tackles and two key interceptions late in the game which swung the momentum in Buffalo’s favor.
The first one came on a tipped pass that the Bills were not able to capitalize on. However, the second was in the closing minutes with the Ravens about to score on a fourth down play. That interception not only gave Buffalo the ball but also moved them from the shadow of their own goalposts and out to the 20-yard line.
This little bit of extra field position helped set the offense up for success and go down the field for the game-winning field goal.
The absence of Micah Hyde certainly creates a challenge but the Bills’ defense will be just fine as long as Jordan Poyer is out there.
