6 early storylines for the Buffalo Bills in Week 4 against the Ravens
Can defense limit Lamar Jackson’s impact on the ground?
Speaking of Lamar Jackson’s ability to make plays with his leg, this creates a big challenge for the Buffalo Bills’ defensive line. If the defense is able to limit his ability to scramble, it should give Buffalo a good chance to come away with a win on the road.
This is certainly easier said than done when it comes to Lamar Jackson. It takes a team effort and a defensive line moving in concert to ensure the Ravens’ quarterback is not able to escape the pocket as the pass rush collapses.
The Bills certainly have the talent among their defensive front as they have great depth, particularly if Ed Oliver and Jordan Phillips can return, which could allow the coaching staff to rotate players through to keep them fresh. They also have two linebackers in Tremaine Edmunds and Matt Milano that may not be as fast as Lamar Jackson but is athletic enough to close quickly.
The last time Buffalo played the Ravens was in the AFC Divisional Round of the 2020 playoffs and in that game, the defense held Lamar Jackson to 34 rushing yards and the coaching staff will likely want to utilize a similar defensive plan from that game.
