The Buffalo Bills have a number of starters on defense who are inactive in Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins

The Buffalo Bills will be playing their first game of the 2022 season on a Sunday and also their first game against an AFC East opponent when they take the field against the Miami Dolphins. Unfortunately, the Bills are going to be very short-handed as they are dealing with a number of injuries after their game against the Tennessee Titans.

The list of inactives this week included four players who were already ruled out on Friday. That group included Ed Oliver, Jordan Phillips, Dane Jackson, and Micah Hyde.

However, since then Hyde has moved to injured reserve and will miss the remainder of the year. Since he is no longer on the active roster, he was not included among the inactives.

Also, it was reported on Saturday evening that Jordan Poyer would also miss that game and that has been confirmed as he is among the inactives. Poyer is dealing with a foot injury that limited him most of the week in practice.

The other big surprise this week is center Mitch Morse also inactive. He suffered an elbow injury against the Tennessee Titans but was listed as questionable. The Bills now will look to either Greg Van Roten or Greg Mancz as the starter at center

The good news for the Buffalo Bills offense this week is that wide receiver Gabe Davis is active after missing the game on Monday against the Tennessee Titans due to an ankle injury. On the defensive side of the ball, defensive tackle Tim Settle is active and should see an expanded role this week with both Ed Oliver and Jordan Phillips out.

The final players inactive this week is wide receiver Khalil Shakir and tight end Tommy Sweeney.

Buffalo Bills’ secondary should be tested this week against the Miami Dolphins

The Bills secondary without Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer and Dane Jackson are going to be lacking a great deal of experience. The expected starting cornerbacks (Christian Benford and Kaiir Elam) along with the starting safeties (Jaquan Johnson and Damar Hamlin) have combined for only three career starts.

In addition to both Johnson and Hamlin starting, the Bills don’t have much in terms of depth behind those two players. The likely player to back them up will be Cam Lewis, who primarily has been a cornerback but was getting some time at safety during the preseason.
