Mitch Morse leaves Buffalo Bills Week 2 game early with elbow injury
Buffalo Bills saw center Mitch Morse leave on the opening drive due to a right elbow injury
The Buffalo Bills once again got off to a great start with a touchdown on their opening drive when Josh Allen dumped it off to fullback Reggie Gilliam for the first score of the game. However, the Bills may have potentially suffered a significant loss earlier in the drive.
The team’s starting center, Mitch Morse, left the game early with an elbow injury and according to the team he is questionable to return as he gets an x-ray on that right elbow. The Bills had backup offensive lineman Greg Van Roten replace him in the lineup.
If Morse is not able to return this will be a big loss for this game and potentially any future games. The Bills signed Morse as a free agent in 2019 and he has been the anchor for this offensive line as he handles the communication across the entire line.
Morse has started 48 games during his time with the Buffalo Bills.
Greg Van Roten has big shoes to fill replacing Mitch Morse on the Buffalo Bills offensive line
The Buffalo Bills will now have Greg Van Roten replace him at center. While Van Roten is an experienced offensive lineman with 50 career starts, almost all of those starts have been at guard.
The Bills signed Greg Van Roten as a free agent this offseason after he spent two years with the New York Jets. However, prior to that, he spent three seasons with the Carolina Panthers from 2017-2019
This week, Van Roten is going to be tested as the Titans have an excellent defensive tackle in Jeffrey Simmons. While he is not on the same level as Los Angeles Rams’ defensive tackle Aaron Donald, Simmons certainly can cause problems given the opportunity.
