Can Von Miller extend his personal sack streak and potentially match a Buffalo Bills franchise record in the process?

When the Buffalo Bills signed Von Miller as a free agent this offseason, the hope was that he would bring plenty to the franchise, both on and off the field. While he has done a lot of those things, one thing he did bring was a regular season streak dating back to last year with the Rams of four straight games with a sack.

The streak started in Week 15 against the Seattle Seahawks with a sack, he would have another the next week against the Minnesota Vikings. Then in Week 17, he would have two sacks against the Baltimore Ravens before finishing the regular season with a sack against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fast forward to this season, and Von Miller continued that streak in Week 1 against his former team with two sacks. He is now in a great spot to extend that streak on Monday night as the Titans have a rookie at right tackle in Nicholas Petit-Frere.

While he did a good job in Week 1, the New York Giants were missing most of their top pass rushers and Von Miller is certainly on another level. This is a matchup that absolutely should favor the former All-Pro.

Von Miller also has a chance to match a franchise record set by Bruce Smith

If Von Miller gets just one sack he will extend his own personal streak but if he gets multiple sacks, he would match a mark set by Hall of Fame defensive end, and league sack holder, Bruce Smith. These would be the only two players in Buffalo Bills’ history to start the year with multiple sacks in back-to-back games.

Bruce Smith accomplished this in 1997 when he had two sacks in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings and then 1.5 sacks in Week 2 against the New York Jets. That season he would go on to record 14 sacks.

Von Miller has only 27 career games with multiple sacks so this certainly won’t be easy and it will be interesting to see if he can match Bruce Smith’s mark set over 20 years ago.
