Christian Benford ahead of Kaiir Elam in snaps

While Kaiir Elam was listed as the starter on the depth chart for the Buffalo Bills in Week 1, it was sixth-round draft pick Christian Benford who got the start against the Los Angeles Rams. While Elam would play, it was Benford who finished with more snaps, playing 39 defensive snaps (58%) compared to Elam who played 30 snaps (45%).

The Buffalo Bills in the past have rotated at this second cornerback spot but it was Levi Wallace splitting with Kevin Johnson in 2019 and Josh Norman in 2020. It remains to be seen if the coaching staff will continue this rotation or if they are hoping one of the two cornerbacks emerges to be the full-time starter.

However, this is something that shouldn’t persist the entire season as once Tre’Davious White returns, it is likely Dane Jackson will be starting opposite White while the rookies move further down the depth chart.
