It is rare to have a statement win in the first week of a season but the Buffalo Bills definitely put the rest of the NFL on notice that the offseason hype was warranted. They were able to not only beat the defending Super Bowl champions on the road but did so emphatically with a 21-point win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Over the course of the game, there were a number of players who stood out that helped the Buffalo Bills secure the win on Thursday night.

Josh Allen

Josh Allen was almost perfect on Thursday night by completing over 80% of his passes, throwing for over 250 yards, rushing for over 50 yards, with three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. According to Pro Football Reference, Allen is the only player since 1950 to have three of these types of games in his career.

The stats are impressive and Josh Allen will seemingly always have those highlight-type plays, from leaping for a touchdown or throwing a stiff arm on a run for a first down. However, the one thing that stood out the most was how in control of a new offensive scheme Allen was.

This was his first regular season game with an offensive coordinator not named Brian Daboll. During the course of the game, Allen looked comfortable and in complete control of the offense. He didn’t seem flustered and knew where he wanted to go with the ball on every play.

Every year, the former first round pick has seemingly improved and what he showed on Thursday night was just another progression in that development.
