The Buffalo Bills’ defense finished near the top of the league in most statistical categories last year. They were the number one defense in points against, allowing only 17 points per game, and yards, allowing only 272.8 yards per game.
This didn’t stop general manager Brandon Beane from trying to improve this side of the ball with the addition of Von Miller and two of their first draft picks in the 2022 NFL Draft being defensive players. When looking at the Bills’ first game of the season, these are six players to watch closely.
6 Buffalo Bills on defense to watch in Week 1 against the LA Rams
Von Miller
The most obvious player is defensive end Von Miller, who joined the Buffalo Bills this offseason as a free agent with a six-year deal. While Miller may not be that elite pass rusher he was earlier in his career, he can still be a difference maker like he showed last year with the Los Angeles Rams.
On Thursday night, the Rams will be celebrating their Super Bowl victory which Von Miller was a big part of helping them to secure. He was traded to the Rams midseason by the Denver Broncos and had nine sacks in 12 games, including four in the playoffs, last year.
The team had kept Miller out of all the preseason games so Thursday night will be the first opportunity for Bills Mafia to see the former All-Pro play in an NFL game for the Buffalo Bills. It will be interesting to see how much Miller is on the field and where they line him up as he will likely be moved around to try and create mismatches.
