Matt Barkley

On the passing end, Matt Barkley finished the game going a meager 9 of 13 passing for 100 yards. He played most of the game but was subject to inefficient play around him.

What’s most impressive about Barkley’s performance in this game, was his ability to punt the ball. On numerous occasions, Barkley would be the quarterback on third downs, run to the sideline to switch helmets, and run back in the game to catch the snap.

Barkley punted the ball four times, averaging 40 yards per punt. But his most impressive punt came late in the first quarter where he was fortunate to receive a friendly roll deep into Panthers’ territory.

Although Barkley wasn’t extremely impressive under center, he’s not likely to get a jersey on game days, provided the quarterbacks ahead of him remain healthy.

On a night where the Buffalo Bills were kept off the scoreboard, Bills Mafia can breathe a sigh of relief for the moment. The most important part of the preseason is that the teams’ key players get out of it healthy.

And the Bills did just that. Buffalo will need to trim its roster to 53 by 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30. And these three players standing out on Friday, won’t make the decisions easy.
