Any Bills running back could be listed here after the position group’s performance on Saturday. Together the running backs were efficient, versatile, and effective throughout the ball game. One running back, however, displayed all the attributes Buffalo’s front office coveted when they paid a premium asset to select him in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

James Cook’s speed and athleticism were a sight to behold. He was quick, fast, and explosive in his opportunities.  Cook averaged close to 10 yards per carry, on just four tries, and caught a pass out the backfield for 12 yards, on a play where he came up just short of the endzone.

Cook provides the Bills an added dimension from the backfield. It’s also been reported that he has worked with the receivers in practice;  potentially carving out a unique role on the roster that opposing defenses will certainly need to prepare for.

The entire running back group shined on Saturday, but Cook’s reported ability to be an all-around, every down back, was on display as advertised.
