Josh Allen is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and has made remarkable improvements since entering the league in 2018 when the Buffalo Bills drafted him seventh overall.

Even with the improvements Allen has made and where he ranks among the quarterbacks in the league, there is always room for improvement. Recently, Drew Bledsoe was at Jim Kelly’s annual golf tournament and was asked what advice he might have for the Bills’ franchise quarterback.

What advice did Drew Bledsoe have for Josh Allen?

Bledsoe was asked by Julianne Pelusi of WGRZ if he were to text Josh Allen what advice would he give him. It was a pretty simple answer and one that many would probably agree with which was “Run out of bounds and get down”.

Bledsoe went on to say that Josh Allen is “so competitive and a big dude that wants to take players on” but “the best ability is availability.”

This advice makes sense from any quarterback but no player knows this more than Bledsoe as his career was drastically impacted by a play like this. He was the first overall pick by the New England Patriots in 1993 and remained the starter for nine seasons. However, in Week 2 of the 2021 season Bledsoe took a hit near the sideline from Jets’ linebacker Mo Lewis that resulted in him being rushed to the hospital with a chest injury.

Bledsoe would miss most of that season and be replaced by Tom Brady, who went on to help the Patriots reach their first of many Super Bowl titles over the next 19 years. As for Bledsoe, he would play in relief of Brady in the AFC Championship Game that season but would be traded after the year to the Buffalo Bills, where he played three seasons and even earned a Pro Bowl nomination in his first year with the team.

There is no question that Josh Allen is more mobile than Drew Bledsoe and his running ability is always going to be a part of Allen’s game. However, there is a fine line that the Buffalo Bills quarterback will need to walk and pick and choose when it is right to take those hits.

As Bledsoe said, the best ability is availability and if the Buffalo Bills want to get to the Super Bowl they are going to need Josh Allen on the field.
