Christian Benford

The momentum that Christian Benford built during training camp carried over into this first preseason game for the Buffalo Bills. He would get the start opposite Kaiir Elam and watching the two players it would be hard to imagine how these two players were drafted six rounds apart.

Benford, going up against the Colts’ starting offense, finished the game with two tackles and one pass breakup. The pass break-up, in particular, was an impressive play and it ended the Colts’ drive as he stopped Michael Pittman from making the catch.

The play of Christian Benford drew the attention of others around the league and according to Cynthia Frelund, who is with NFL Network but also the sideline reporter for the Buffalo Bills during the preseason, tweeted that she has received texts from “one gm and two high ranking execs” about whether or not she thought Benford would make the Buffalo Bills roster.

The idea that Benford could actually start over Kaiir Elam in Week 1 if Tre’Davious White is not ready looks to be a real possibility and it will be interesting to see how these next two preseason games play out.
