Another veteran addition to the offense this offseason was tight end O.J. Howard, who is expected to be the number two tight end behind Dawson Knox. However, Tommy Sweeney has played well as of late in training camp and he may be in a position battle for that spot on the depth chart.

Howard is a former first round pick by the Bucs but has dealt with a number of injuries over the past few years. In 2020, he suffered a ruptured Achilles and last year was a struggle to find opportunities as he played only 31% of the snaps and had 14 receptions.

One of the reasons the Buffalo Bills were interested in adding Howard this offseason is it appears they want to be more versatile with their formations. They could be looking to run more two tight end sets and having a player like Howard alongside Knox makes sense.

If the Buffalo Bills keep Dawson Knox out of this game against the Colts, it could be a good chance for Howard to see some extended snaps. The question will be how he moves now over a year removed from his Achilles injury and what he is able to do in the passing game.
