Kaiir Elam and Christian Benford

The one position group that will generate the most attention is at cornerback, particularly the rookie duo of Kaiir Elam and Christian Benford.

While defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier didn’t commit to both cornerbacks being out there against the Colts, it would be surprising to not see them out on the field. They could benefit from extended playing time during the preseason and leading up to the regular season.

The reason it is going to be important is that two of the three cornerbacks Jon Scott listed could be starting Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams if Tre’Davious White is not ready to return. This would be a big test for players like Elam and Benford who are inexperienced.

The good news is that Elam and Benford have been tested in training camp by one of the best quarterbacks in the league with Josh Allen. The Colts have also done the coaching staff a favor by having Matt Ryan out there and will help evaluate where they are in terms of their development.
